LGBTQ+ Counseling

“I want to be confident in me.”

“Being queer right now is terrifying.”

“I am not sure how to experience love.”

Sound familiar?

I see you.

I grew up as a child in the 1990s as a young person very aware of how I was different, in a time in which diversity in sexuality was far from accepted. I remember seeing a constant flow of commercials, arguments on tv, and in the news consistently reminding me that I did not fit in.

Being a queer therapist in 2024 reminds me of those younger years, when everything seemed so tenuous and uncertain. It is because of own lived experiences that I am so passionate about supporting the LGBTQ+ Community through individual and relationship counseling services.

You deserve counseling with a therapist that is competent about our community and devoted to giving attention to every aspect of your experience.

Explore

your full self

Finding the language to represent our full experiences can feel borderline impossible. There are many layers that make you whole.

Together, we will go on this journey of exploration at the pace that feels right to you. Sometimes, learning comes in waves and need time for reflection. Whether that means you are exploring names, pronouns, identities, relationship structures, or all the above, my counseling office is the place for you.

As a career social worker, my professional philosophy to this work is that the best conditions for healing is when critical unmet needs can be satisfied.

I have extensive experience advocating for clients seeking gender affirming medical care, including writing letters to providers and reinforcing your goals with your care team. In addition, I can support you in legal name changes and gender marker changes for identity documents.

Determine

your boundaries

As a member of the LGBTQ+ Community, the coming out process is a lifetime exercise. On what can feel like a daily basis, we are put in positions where we have to choose disclosure or discretion.

Together, we will identify the spaces in your life in which you are experiencing tension. We will find the language that is right for you to establish space to feel safe and confident throughout your life.

Please reach out if you have any questions about my experience supporting LGBTQ+ clients.

  • Yes there are!

At my Evanston office, there are bathrooms labeled as men and women, but there many stalls available and each bathroom is locked.

At my Chicago office, is a single lockable bathroom available to clients.

  • While there are many incredible providers that do great work with the LGBTQ+ Community, there can be a benefit working with a provider that has lived experience and connection with some of the challenges you are experiencing. In my work, I will bring a counseling philosophy formed through my experiences as a queer person and offerings that are tailored to your story.
